Persecution

The Bible has a lot to say about the subject of persecution, mainly that christians will have to face it. This verse is awesome. It is in 2 Timothy.

12Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

I have one question. Are you, in some way, being persecuted for the sake of the Gospel and because of your desire for holiness. If not then it is obvious that you do not truly desire to "live godly in Christ Jesus".

I exhort you to do one thing. "LOVE JESUS AND BE HOLY"

I believe this verse is speaking over the long term. It's not like you get instant persecution when you desire to live a life that pleases God. But persecution will happen sooner or later. This verse is a warning to expect it, not saying that if you're not persecuted then you have no desire to live a holy life.

Great challenge at the end, though.

I am not so sure I agree with you Josh. I would say that someone that is living life like he/she desires to be holy through Christ will see that persecutions. And it "will" happen more and more, just as Revelations says, as we get closer to the end.

But like you said great challenge.

Nothing in the entire chapter would indicate that it is speaking over the long term and this is not just a warning but a definitive statement. "will be persecuted"

I am saying all of this including the post with humility because this verse (in a big way) has convicted me.

yeah it doesn't give a specific time frame at all either instant or long term but it will happen. It would be interesting to see what the translation of persecution means as well. I mean i think that its obvious but it would be interesting. Great entry and extremely challenging.
